On October 19, Townhall headlined Michigan Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed as wanting readers to pay for migrants’ gender surgery. The piece rests on his 2021 and 2022 podcast remarks. No bill, cost or count appears. The headline’s subject is El-Sayed, but its target is “You”. It hands the reader a bill: your money, leaving your pocket, for the two pictures most likely to stir disgust in its readers. The page’s own seventh paragraph, after two embedded posts, quotes the remark the scenario comes from: El-Sayed in 2022 naming “the prime example that conservatives will impose” on a Medicare for All debate. Nothing in Townhall’s piece or in its Free Beacon source gives a bill, a cost estimate or a count of people covered. The sentence rides the fear of loss: what you will pay, never what anyone would get, and never the 2017 argument the Free Beacon itself reports, that uninsured people end up in emergency rooms and taxpayers pay that bill too. The hard words carry the rest: “Illegal Alien” for an undocumented person, “Sex Changes” for gender surgery. The third paragraph says he “would quadruple your federal income tax” and links only to a September 30 piece about COVID. The tell is the bill with no number on it. The same eyes go to the campaign. Its spokesman’s line guarantees care for “every single American taxpayer” and leaves undocumented people unmentioned. El-Sayed’s 2026 line, care “defined by what a patient needs in accordance with their doctor,” does not settle it either. What the record holds: a 2021 hope for a “truly inclusive” plan and a 2022 forecast of an attack, both recorded when he was a commentator and podcaster, and no bill text. Fox’s headline on Rogers adds “extreme” and names no policy.
