On October 19, The Federalist ran a Trump ally’s midterm ad line as its headline: an “Unholy Marriage” of Marxists and Islamists. The Article III Project is spending five figures on daily videos naming Mamdani, Omar and El-Sayed. The headline’s subject is a marriage, and no one in it has a name. Two categories, one built from a faith’s name, are joined by a religious word, ‘Unholy’, and crowned with a superlative inside quotation marks no speaker owns. The words are Mike Davis’s, from his group’s October 16 press release. A plain sentence would read: a Trump ally’s group launched daily midterm videos calling a mayor, a congresswoman and a Senate candidate a threat. That plain sentence holds the number the word hides. The release names three people: Zohran Mamdani, Ilhan Omar and Abdul El-Sayed, plus campus encampments and unnamed ‘others’. ‘Islamists’ is the hard word doing the work of their names, and the tell is a faith’s label written as one body with one intent. The habit it rides: three people stand for a whole faith’s plan, while our side’s one who errs is only himself. In the book’s stages, ‘conquer America’ is Threat Assessment. The blend repeats. The Federalist’s France report headlines ‘Communists And Muslims’, resting on a Fox News count of 54 groups that Fox itself sums up as communist youth groups, labor unions and Palestine solidarity movements. The report’s own list includes Amnesty International France, SOS Racisme and the Human Rights League. RealClearPolitics carried a ‘Marxist-Islamist Alliance’ piece whose summary names no one behind the Limoges fire. The savior is in the group’s X post: ‘This November, Vote America.’
